Foodborne Illness has been the main part of the food safety issue in many countries in recent several decades and happened with increasing frequency as soon as the big influence, while the microbiology hazard has constituted a high proportion of that. Microbiological risk assessment and microbiological detection methods research have been the specific focus for lot of food safety experts, FAO and WHO also have conducted a group to develop the research and training.

Risk assessment is a step in a risk management process. Risk assessment consists in an objective evaluation of risk in which assumptions and uncertainties are clearly considered and presented. Efforts needed from every part to learn the potential hazard and link the hazard to the frequency of the corresponding illness, to improve the perfecting of the food safety standards, and policy making and illustration.

Therefore, ICMSF, IUFoST, Industry Council for Development, ILSI China Point and Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology worked together to hold the workshop on microbiological risk assessment and microbiological detection methods, inviting the global known experts in this field to share the related fundamentals and the latest examples to Chinese colleagues, to contribute to the development of the food safety issues in China.
