Food Safety affects every aspect of a country's political, economic and social fabric. Profound challenges are being faced as the global food industry is being transformed and domestic and external forces change the way food is monitored and standardized. Best case practices with regard to standardization, consumer health and maintaining proper regulation along all levels of the supply chain are being sought.
China took a major step forward towards improving its national food safety standards with the inception of the China Food Safety Law, June 2009. This law has broad implications for what will be permitted with the Chinese food industry. Along with other sectors, food safety management systems and inspection systems will be undergoing dramatic changes. The international exchange of ideas and collaboration on food safety issues are extremely important and necessary for the successful implementation of these changes at this critical time.
The 2010 International Forum on Food Safety, 22 and 23 April 2010, co-organized by the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) and the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) under the auspices of the Ministry of Health China is the result of this top-level collaboration and consultation.
Featuring eminent speakers from the related departments of China Government, global industry and leading international organization experts in the area of food safety, the forum theme "Risk Management: Concept and Practice" will be examined with authority and in detail. Scientists, policy makers, industrialists and administrators will have the rare opportunity to learn firsthand with expert advice on the principles of risk management and its successful application to Chinese interests. The exchange promises to provide extraordinary insights into the successful practice of food safety management in Asia and around the globe.
